We are mostly writers based in Australia.
Writing is a terribly fiddly process at times, and in our experience, we have found that it often lacks the support we sometimes wished we had. We hope to help others like us, sharing fresh views as well as being able to share my style and interests for those who would also be moved by my work.
What we've found is that, between vanity press praise and traditional pathways that say little more than not-the-right-fit, there seems to be very few places to find an honest opinion without spending a fortune.
But rather than an editor, we find that when it comes to understanding the story as a story, it's unusually better to have beta readers. They share the most reader-driven advice.
But even then, it's sometimes quite hard to find the right person. Caution is needed when approaching people with unpublished work. Despite copyright laws, manuscript thieves still trawl the online groups, causing headaches for the potential of your story.
On the other hand, friends that you trust might shy away when you talk about your writing, having read and re-read the stories one too many times. Without them, the pool of people who you can rely on for honest help becomes quite small, particularly when it comes to first impressions
COCOWORDCRAFT is about addressing these issues, by providing beta reading services for people at a minimal cost; all in the hope of maturing together as a community of writers.
